If you’re overweight or obese and you’ve tried diets and exercise programmes but you haven’t lost the weight you want or need, then our weight loss treatments may be the answer, so long as you’re committed to keeping to a strict diet plan and changing to a healthier lifestyle. Weight loss surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, is not a magic cure but it can offer an aid to help you control your food intake and in some cases reduce the calories absorbed.
Here at Mount Stuart Hospital we offer a surgical and a non-surgical weight loss option. We perform the popular gastric band surgery and, the gastric balloon procedure for those who aren’t ready, or don’t meet the criteria, for surgery. Our experienced and skilled weight loss surgeon, Mr Stuart Andrews, regularly performs these procedures and will discuss in detail what each involves, the benefits and risks and recommend a treatment option based on your personal needs, motivations and goals.
We also have a specialist weight loss dietician to offer advice and guidance about your food intake and your nutritional needs.
The staff at Mount Stuart Hospital are committed to providing the best weight loss care offering easy access to support and regular weight monitoring post-surgery.
If you’re overweight or obese your risk of developing a serious health condition is increased. These can include: type 2 diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, some types of cancer, strokes and sleep apnoea. You’re also more likely to develop psychological problems, such as depression and low self-esteem. Once you start to lose weight, it can help you become more active and can lead to improvements in these health areas.
Our aim is to provide you with the best pre and post weight loss treatment and, offer you all the support you need, to achieve your weight loss goals.
